Too often civics education often fails to connect students' concerns to actionable knowledge about institutional design. Demognostics remedies this by transforming passive frustration into active, informed citizenship and connectedness. Students don't just learn what democracy is; they learn about their priorities and values, how those values can be reflected in their democracy, and are connected with civic and reform groups in their area.
Currently in the concept phase, Demognostics will offer concerned citizens and students a vehicle to learn about government and their own values while building understanding of the democracy reform space. The app empowers users to move beyond inactive disgruntlement to self-reflection and growth, while offering ideas and courses of action to make their democracy better.
Demognostics can't be effective without the contributions of educators just like you. We are eager to hear from educators of young people from around the country (and the world) on how they engage students and their reactions to our concept. Take the survey below to tell us your thoughts.

Scaffolding reflection: The chatbot (Dr. Dahl) uses Socratic questioning to move students from "venting" to "reflecting." This builds the Meta-cognition skills required for mature civic discourse.
Nuanced thinking and media literacy: By identifying "side effects" of reforms, the app teaches students that every institutional choice involves trade-offs, combating black-and-white thinking and the life and death narratives often found in partisan media.
Creativity and safe harbor inquiry: The app provides a vetted, safe, "sandbox" where students can be creative and explore radical or unconventional ideas without the fear of judgment or "cancellation" that often stifles classroom debate.

You and/or your students could get an early look at Demognostics and help make it better by signing up to be a part of user testing.
User testing includes runs the full gamut of surveys, focus groups, workshops, and mock and live classroom tests. We'll be conducting user testing through the many stages of app development.

About Doctors of Democracy
Since our incorporation in 2023, DODO has worked tirelessly to establish ourselves as a trusted, nonpartisan actor that helps students, educators, reformers, and everyday citizens to engage meaningfully with democracy reform.
DODO is a natural home for Demognostics because we combine hands-on experience (in academia, democracy reform and civic engagement activism, and government) and academic training in democratic and governing institutions with the absence of our own reform agenda (We do note advance one reform idea over another, but instead believe that institutional choices should depend on context and citizens' values and goals).
To protect and strengthen U.S. democracy by improving the conversation around democracy reform: injecting humility, humor, and nuanced historical and comparative perspectives into a polarized field, all without pushing a pet reform agenda.
Our leadership team brings deep academic expertise in democracy and elections, as well as practical experience in government, reform groups, and election administration. They are supported by an enthusiastic and dedicated team, stretched across the country with diverse experiences and skills.
