Are you passionate about democracy? Want to explore the data behind our democracy or tell the story of electoral reform? Doctors of Democracy (DODO) is looking for motivated graduate and undergraduate students to join our team for a summer or semester in research and comms roles.
Research interns will work directly with the Executive Director on high-impact strategic projects. If you get a thrill from a clean spreadsheet and a well-designed data visualization, this is for you. You’ll be the engine behind our latest studies on early voting, same-day registration, and proportional representation. Tasks include:
Data Wrangling: Validate, clean, and organize complex datasets on elections and democracy.
Data Visualization: Turn raw data into meaningful maps and charts.
Drafting and Checking: Fact-check reports and draft insightful blog posts.
Graduate students: In addition to more sophisticated research and getting your own byline, we offer the opportunity to use our data and/or collaborate with us on articles for peer review.
Comms interns will lead the charge on social strategy and media outreach. We have the data; now we need the world to see it. We’re looking for a creative strategist to translate complex research into engaging, thumb-stopping content.
Tasks include:
Multimedia Production: Create videos, "vox pops," and visuals that make electoral systems easy to understand.
Social Strategy: Draft and schedule content across all major platforms.
Media Relations: Draft press releases to support the launch of our major research projects.
Real-world impact: Your work will directly influence the conversation around representation, elections, and democracy.
Supportive environment and mentorship: Work closely with leadership and develop your network.
Portfolio building: Leave with published blog posts, credited research, or a professional media reel.
Flexible arrangements:
We are open to part-time and short-term internships (as well as 3-month full-time roles).
All positions are remote.
We are happy to provide letters in support for school funding.
Additionally, DODO can offer a small stipend for one intern each semester/summer.
